Creative Egremont Blog
A blog about Creative Egremont and related stuff: a year-long programme of public art with a difference, in Egremont in West Cumbria.
Folk Float?! or Mobile Folk Archive?!
On Monday we spent an enjoyable day in town with Public Works who are commissioned to make a touring mobile ‘museum’ (kind of) to show and collate local artefacts. We visited Dorothy and Ralph Merrett at their house and viewed some of the archive to be shown in the project. Pictured here also is artist Kathrin Bohm and her model of the milk float proposal for the museum, which provoked much discussion and laughter as we tried to name the thing!

Phew!
Our station, Egremont FM - the town’s first ever community radio project - has come to and end after 4 weekends of broadcasting from Young Cumbria’s Centre on Wyndham Way. What an exhilarating and exhausting project!
I think all of us learnt so much from the experience - not just about radio waves (thanks Barry!) but also about what makes the town tick....by the end of the project, many pubs were piping us through their speakers, and the response from listeners on email and text was just outstanding. Coordinator Alison Southward worked like a trouper and we have many committed volunteers to thank too. I won’t be the only person missing their show I’m sure.
One tiny gripe would go to the local media -they know who they are! - who despite loads of communications from us - did almost nothing to support the station in the paper or on the TV. It’s a little disappointing if Carlisle and Whitehaven are the only places they will show up at!
Anyway, I have been busy sorting out the website which will eventually have most shows online as ‘Listen Again’ so keep your eye on it at www.egremontfm.com
