Below you can view sections of the webcast discussion ‘A New Public Art’, originally webcast live from Egremont Market Hall on Friday June 16th 2006, 12 - 5pm
Session 1 / 12.00 - 1.00pm
A Public Art Strategy for Egremont (click to view)
A discussion of Grizedale Arts’ new strategy for public art for Egremont, looking at its aims, its approach and comparative models; and to develop new ideas for the programme ahead.
Session 2 / 2.00 - 3.00pm
The Greasy Pole (click to view)
A key feature of Grizedale’s strategy is to return the Greasy Pole climbing event to the town, after insurance restrictions stopped this historic event, two years ago. Artists Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane are now working to return the Pole as a permanent public sculpture, which can be used every year for the event.
The panel will discuss the background to this project and analyse its implications for public art and new models of art practice.
Session 3 / 3.45 - 5.00pm
Reality Curation (click to view)
In the final session the panel will discuss recent developments in engaged, context and social art and possible new ways forward for public art, including developing and shaping ‘non-art’ as part of a constructive and artistic approach.
